Inside Out

Message Series:

Inside Out

The letters to the Thessalonians stand in contrast to Paul’s other epistles. There are no large chunks of doctrine and theology that lead to application. Instead, Paul focuses on what they already know - their experience so far as a church, and his model as a leader.

Their challenge – and ours - is to take what is known on the inside – teaching, theology, experience – and apply it out in a challenging and hostile world.

Chosen

Clare Thompson. May 1st, 2011

The church in Thessalonica overcame a discouraging start to grow into a model community of enormous and far-reaching influence. We examine what it takes to win a city for the gospel and what it means to be part of a family chosen by God.

Family Fortunes

Philip Jinadu. May 15th, 2011

Giving up idol worship in a pagan society could leave a new believer utterly cut off. Yet the Thessalonian church forged an incredibly strong sense of family and community. We look at what it means to be a father and a mother, a brother and a sister, in the family of God - and how that enables believers to stand firm against opposition and compromise.

After affirming their status as ‘chosen’ in his first letter, Paul now encourages the Thessalonians to live worthy of their calling. We look at how we should live in the light of Christ’s future judgement – both positive and negative – and what happens when God’s power meets our purposes.

The Day After Tomorrow

Dave Mitchell. June 12th, 2011
7pm
For the church in Thessalonica there was a great deal of confusion surrounding the day of the Lord. But there’s more to understanding Biblical hope than getting a few theological facts straight. In this session, we sort through the misunderstandings and misinformation to look at how a community, encouraged in the grace and love of God, understands its part in His glorious plans.

Idle Worship

Philip Jinadu. June 19th, 2011
7pm
For a book that focuses so much on the age to come, 2 Thessalonians finishes up with a strong emphasis on hard work and application in the here and now. Good teaching should always lead to good living. Once again we see the underlining key message of Thessalonians: inside out -knowledge on the inside has to be translated into action on the outside.
